4th Anniversary

Yesterday marked our 4th Anniversary as Mr. and Mrs. Lovelace.

We have been so blessed over the past four years,
and I can't wait to see what our future holds in the years to come.

I wish I could say we had an amazing day together,
but we were living the married life of supplying for the family and helping others.

Kevin spent the day farming.  I am sure most of his day was looking like this.

After dropping Adelaide off at MDS for the day, I went to Fast Pace to get an X-Ray done on my foot.  (I fell the day before and woke up with a huge knot on my swollen foot.)

I was glad to hear no broken bones, but then I got a phone call that Kevin's grandfather had fallen.  Being the only family member available, I followed the ambulance to Jackson so that he would have someone with him in the ER.  This is what the majority of my day looked like.

We were so glad to hear that he had not broken any bones either.
I was able to bring him home that afternoon.

That was the extent to my day (plus dinner with some friends).
Although we did not get to go out or anything, I am glad that Kevin is almost done harvesting the wheat.  I am also glad that I was able to be there for his grandfather when needed.
We are just living the married life now. :)

Here is a slideshow that was shown during our wedding:
I like to watch it every year to remind me how God truly did
"bless the broken road" to lead us back to one another.

Farmer's Daughter

We celebrated Father's Day a few weekends ago by going to church at Englewood with my parents and eating lunch at Olive Garden.

The following day Kevin started cutting wheat, and we haven't seen much of him since.  Poor Adelaide is asleep when he leaves in the mornings and when he comes home.  In order to see him some, we have been having to go out to the field and ride with him. Oh the joys of being a farmer's daughter!

The first day we went I had her dressed in a nice plaid dress, but I was instructed before I left the house that she had to wear her "work clothes" to the field.  So this is what we ended up with. :)

Daddy was happy to see us, and "little bit" was very interested in things.

After trying to stay up the entire time, she finally gave in for a nap.

We went back a few days later to visit again.

This time I did not dress her in her "work clothes", but she still insisted on driving.

We have been back a few more times to take lunch and visit.  We were even more excited when Kevin got off early yesterday due to rain.  We finally got to have dinner all together!  Here's to another week or two of living the life of a farmer's wife and daughter.

Funny 1st Grade Sayings

I know it's summer, and I am suppose to be taking a break from teaching.  However, I can't help thinking about work.  I have such amazing classes each year, and I can't wait to find out who is in my room next year.

This year I did something a little different, and I wrote down some of my favorite moments.  These moments didn't revolve around me, but they revolved around the crazy things my first grade students have said during class.  Let me just tell you it is never boring in my classroom especially this past year.  I am so glad that I recorded these down so I will always have them to remember these crazy but smart kiddos.

Scenario 1
Teacher: "Why are you at your backpack?"
Student: "I thought I came to school with diapers in my backpack." Serious as he could be
Teacher: Puzzled and I am sure giving him a crazy face "Why would you have diapers?  Do you need them?"
Student: "No, but my mom might with my baby brother."
What can you say? He genuinely was concerned.
I am just glad my backpack area doesn't look like this!

Scenario 2 - Small Group Reading - Reading a chapter book
Teacher: "Does anyone know why the police called the mother a cuckoo?"
Student: "No, but she must be from Bolivar.  My parents say that all the cuckoos live in Bolivar."

Scenario 3 - Writing "Monkey Notes" (Conduct Notes) before Going Home for the Day
Teacher: "Why have you been acting up today?"
Student: "You know what caused my misbehavior?  It's this scar under my eye.  It has caused me to act this way."
Needless to say, he still got his monkey note.

Scenario 4 - Teaching off the Promethean Board (Smart Board)
Student: "Mrs. Elizabeth, why is that written so sloppy?" Pointing to the Promethean Board in which I had typed something.
Teacher: "What are you talking about?" Confused as can be, because everything was typed
Student: "This.  It's sloppy." Getting up and pointing to words that were italicized "You wouldn't let me turn my work in like that."
All I could do was laugh and try to explain

Scenario 5 - Bringing students back from the bathroom
Student: "Do I have a booger in my nose?" Holding his head back so I could check
Teacher: "Really, you just asked me that? Why don't you go back to the bathroom and see?"

Scenario 6 - Small Group Reading
Teacher: "When would you need to use a dictionary?"
Student: "I won't ever need a dictionary.  I have Siri.  She will be my dictionary."

Scenario 7 - Science Time Talking about Living and Nonliving Things
Teacher: "Is a hamburger living or nonliving?"
Student: "It is living in my mouth when I eat it." All serious.

Scenario 8 - Math Lesson about Perimeter
Teacher: "Why should we learn about perimeter?"
Student: "When I get older and I have kids that are in first grade, I will need to help and teach them about perimeter."

Scenario 9 - Whole Group Reading Lesson
Teacher: "What is a crack?"
Student: "It's dark brown and sometimes itches."
Wrong crack!

Scenario 10 - Small Group Reading Lesson about Worms
Student in another group: "Worms! I can do the worm."
Teacher: "Do it!" I was talking to another person in the room.
Student: "Really!" Jumps up to do the worm.
Teacher: "NO!!! I wasn't talking to you."

These are just a few of the crazy things that were said in my classroom this year.
I hope you enjoyed them as much as I have enjoyed looking back on them.
I truly love teaching and there is never a day that is boring!

Sunshine, Lemonade, and Fun!

Last weekend, this little diva turned 1!

We started the day with cinnamon rolls for breakfast.

We celebrated with family and friends with a lemonade theme party at my parents.

Kevin made the lemonade stand.
In lieu of gifts, donations were taken up to go to our local Carl Perkins Center.

I decided to tackle all the food, decorations, and cake myself.
Thank goodness my good friend, Jessie, came over and helped.

Once the party started, all attention was on the birthday girl!

I can't wait to see how these friendships grow!

Yes, we made her try a lemon!

After a good nap that afternoon, Adelaide got to swim in her little pool.  She loves water!

What a fun day celebrating this sweet one turning 1!
