A Raging Battle

I am joining again on an online Bible study through Proverbs 31 Ministries.  This study is based on Lysa TerKeurst's Made to Crave book.  They are having a blog hop each week to help women join together through the process.

Proverbs 31 Ministries Online Bible Studies

This week I chose to write about "A Raging Battle".  Our prompt stated, "Food isn't the only thing that tempts to destroy our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.  What other things do you currently crave more than God?".

Mine may sound crazy.  I touched on it in my post titled "One Little Word".  I have been so overwhelmed with trying not to fail in everything I do that I have craved success more than God.  However in this craving success, I have let my family, friends, and mostly God down.

Through my work, I have not allowed much time for God.  I quit going to church on Sunday and Wednesday nights, because I was overwhelmed creating these amazing lesson plans for school.  I quit using my musical talents at church, because I did not have time to practice due to long hours at work.  I quit having alone time with God in the mornings, because I would check my e-mails first thing and run out of time for Him.  The list could go on and on.

I want to let my light "SHINE" in 2014 by putting God first in every avenue of my life.  I know when I do this that everything else will fall into place.  I know it is important to be a good teacher, but my relationship with God should come first.  I want my students to be able to see the love of God through me, because I may be the only person that they see this from.

What do you currently crave more than God?

  1. Hi Elizabeth, I really enjoyed reading your blog. I think (and I know) that putting Christ first in every area of life will help us to crave Him more than anything else. Thank you for sharing! Natalie (OBS Blog Team)

  2. Thanks for sharing this so honestly Elizabeth. I appreciate it. I am craving food more than God, so I am thankful for this online Bible study. I am using food as a way to relieve stress and for comfort. I am trying to replace that craving with prayer this week. Sending up a prayer for your struggle now!

  3. I'm a teacher as well but perhaps it's the hard lessons learned over 17 years that I've come to the point of balancing my life a lot more. As teachers we have the biggest hearts and will do anything for our student's lives sadly at the detriment of our own lives sometimes.

You have a amazing gifts and talents and growth opportunities that He is dying to share with you.

I love how you are so open and honest on this blog. Such a comfort to know so many others are struggling with the same things.

I hope you don't mind but I've linked your blog post to mine.

  4. I so agree that my school work tends to come first, before everything else! Even when I am rocking my baby girl to sleep I am constantly thinking about my students, and what I need to create or do to help them become better!! I need to let go of everything else, and just live in the moment!! I hope that this book will help you on your journey, and it sounds like a great book that I should read too!
